Sixth-Graders Visit Art Omi
By Sadie Kratt, Sixth-Grader

On Wednesday, October 14th, the 6th grade of Chatham Middle School took a visit to Art Omi. Everybody brought in a piece of wood with a meaning to it.

What they did with the wood was make a totem pole with an artist named Jason Middlebrook. But before he put the wood on the pole, each student was given a chance to stain and sand their piece of wood.
While Jason was nailing the wood, some stayed and watched, and some took a walk around the sculpture park to see the amazing works of art.
When the pole was finished, everyone stood back far enough to see how amazing it looked. And they learned that the totem pole symbolized importance of an individual and teamwork as a class.
This endeavor was funded in part by a grant from the Chatham Education Foundation.
