  PreCalculus

  Goals: to increase student’s knowledge of Algebra topics to improve problem solving skills to prepare for Integrated Algebra Regents Exam to use technology to investigate, find and verify solutions to problems Evaluation: Classwork:  Students are expected to participate in every part of class.  Class will be a variety of teacher presentations, individual work, and group work.  Homework:  Completing homework is essential to success in Algebra.  Daily homework is expected to be complete and ready to discuss in the next class.  Homework will be worth 100 points a quarter.  Everyone will start with 100.  I will be checking if you have your homework each day.  If it is complete and work is shown then you will get 0 points taken away.  If it is half done or no work is shown then you will get 1 point off.  If you do not have it at all then it is 2 points off.  You may get one point back if you show it to me the next day.  Homework will not be accepted after the one day late.  There will also be a set of 5 homework problems assigned each week to hand in.  These will be worth 10 points a week.   Quizzes:  Announced quizzes will be given once or twice a week.  They will be 15 to 30 points.  Quizzes will consist of questions similar to homework questions.  I will drop the lowest quiz grade each quarter.   Tests:  Tests will be given at the end of chapters and will be worth 100 points.  Re-takes of tests will be allowed.  You will be able to get half the missed points back.

  Goals: to increase student’s knowledge of Precalculus topics to think as a mathematician to improve problem solving skills to prepare for Calculus and/or other college level math to use technology to investigate, find and verify solutions to problems Evaluation: Classwork:  Students are expected to participate in every part of class.  Class will be a variety of teacher presentations, individual work, and group work.  Homework:  Completing homework is essential to success in Precalculus.  Daily homework is expected to be complete and ready to discuss in the next class.  However, it will not be graded.               Projects/Weekly Assignments:  Projects will be assigned periodically individually or in groups.  They will be 40 to 50 points.  Occasionally a weekly problem will be assigned to test your problem solving skills.  These will be worth 10-20 points. Quizzes:  Announced quizzes will be given once or twice a week.  They will be 15 to 30 points.  Quizzes will consist of questions similar to homework questions.    Tests:  Tests will be given at the end of chapters and will be worth 100 points.

Averages:     Averages will be calculated by dividing all points earned by the total points possible and multiplying by 100. 

Extra Help:  I will be available after school from 2:30-3:00.  I will announce in class if I am unable to stay.  Review sessions will be held before the midterm exam and Regents exam/Final.

Missed Work:  If you are absent, YOU are responsible to make up work as soon as you
return.  If possible, you should check my webpage for what you have missed.  If a test or quiz is missed, you are expected to take it as soon as possible (within a week).  If it is not made up within a week, it is a zero.  Also, if it was an illegal absence or tardy, then you will receive a zero.  If you are in school and miss class, you are still expected to be prepared for class the next day.

Class Expectations:

• No talking while the teacher is talking.
• Follow directions when they are given.
• Be to class on time and begin directions on the board.
• Be prepared for class.
• You must have a pass to leave class.

Consequences:
1st offense: warning
2nd offense: detention
