2019 Board of Education Election

Want to serve your school and community? The Chatham Central School District Board of Education has Board Candidate Petitions available from the District Clerk in the Superintendent’s Office. Board candidates wishing to appear on the ballot must be nominated by petition. Candidates must be able to read and write, be a current resident of the District for at least one year, and be a qualified voter of the District (citizen of the U.S., at least 18 years of age or older). Petitions must be signed by at least 25 qualified voters of the District and returned to the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on April 22, 2019.

The Board will be filling five seats at the Annual District Budget Vote and Election on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. in the MED Elementary School gym.

Vacancies:

The expiring term of Craig Simmons (current incumbent)
The person elected to this Board seat will serve a 3-year term.
The term begins July 1, 2019 – June 30, 2022

The expiring term of Muriel Faxon (current incumbent)
The person elected to this Board seat will serve a 3-year term.
The term begins July 1, 2019 – June 30, 2022

The expiring term of Melony Spock (Graham Button – current incumbent)
The person elected to this Board seat will service a 3-year term.
The term begins July 1, 2019 – June 30, 2022

The unexpired term of David O’Connor (Carol Wilber – current incumbent)
The person elected to this Board seat will serve a 2-year term
The term begins May 22, 2019 – June 30, 2021

The unexpired term of Winnie Legere (Matthew Fisch – current incumbent)
The person elected to this Board seat will serve a 1-year term
The term begins May 22, 2019 – June 30, 2020

The three candidates receiving the highest number of votes will fill the three 3-year terms. The fourth-highest vote getter will fill the 2-year term and the fifth-highest vote getter will fill the 1-year term. The candidates receiving the 2-year term or the 1-year term will begin May 22, 2019.

The order of names of candidates on the ballot for school board will be determined by lot on April 23, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. in the Superintendent’s Office. All candidates who filed petitions are invited to attend.

Voter Information

Who Can Vote?

To be eligible to vote on May 21 you must be:

  • A citizen of the United States 18 years of age or older
  • A resident of the Chatham Central School District for a period of 30 days or more directly preceding the day of the vote
  • Registered to vote with either the School District or the Columbia County Board of Elections

Voter Registration Days

If you have not previously registered and would like to vote in this election, you can register with the School District Board of Registration at the following times:

  • Wednesday, April 24, from 2:00-6:00 p.m. in the MED Elementary School lobby
  • Tuesday, May 14th, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. in the MED Elementary School lobby

Absentee Ballots: Applications for absentee ballots may be applied for at the Office of the School District Clerk, located in the Mary E. Dardess Elementary School. Applications for absentee ballots must be received by the School District Clerk no later than 4:00 p.m. on May 14, 2019 if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter; or prior to 4:00 p.m. May 20, 2019 if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter.
