Committees

Just as Uncle Sam needs the citizens of the United Sates to step up to the plate and make a difference in the times of national crises, your Alumni Association needs you to help make your alma mater and community a better place.

A communications link between alumni; a coordinator of events that bring alumni together for social occasions or in support of current school activities; and organization to represent alumni interests in the community; an entity that works with the school board, school employees, and current students to improve the quality of education in Chatham schools.

Chairs of the standing committees have been elected, but they cannot do the job alone. Membership on those committees is needed. Following is a brief description of the committees, board representative and the committees' goals:

Education Support Committee (Nancy Jones Knabbe) - responsible for developing ways that alumni can participate in improving the quality of education provided in Chatham Central Schools. The committee will look for support roles that alumni can fill to enhance learning opportunities for students.

Community Relations Committee (Dave O'Connor) - responsible for working with businesses and individuals within the Chatham Central School district to find resources and ideas that can help both the community and the school.

Social Events Committee (Margaret Sawyer) - responsible for planning, scheduling and coordinating the alumni's social events that give members an opportunity to come together for fun, comradery and fellowship throughout the year.

Communication Committee (Joan Sherman Simard) - establishes and enhances communications within the Alumni Association and outside the Association through local news media and website information. The committee will also be responsible for spearheading membership drives by communicating with alumni the advantages of membership.

Finance Committee (Henry Binzer) - responsible for financial planning of the Alumni Association which includes fund raising opportunities to meet the alumni's budget priorities.

What can you do to help? E-mail the alumni association @ alumni@chatham.k12.ny.us to indicate where your talents will best be served.

Don't let the fact that you do not live in Chatham - or even in the State of New York - stop you from lending your voice and expertise. This is the age of technology and globalization. E-mail and the internet make communications a breeze; therefore, if you cannot get to Chatham to participate, you can provide ideas, guidance, etc.

You did not get to where you are today without that high school diploma. Help the current students learn from your experiences and volunteer your time. We know it's precious and limited, but please do what you can.
