Miles Performs with NY-ACDA Honor Choir

The weekend of August 10th and 11th, rising freshman Anna Miles represented Chatham at the New York American Choral Directors Association’s Middle School/Junior High Honor Choir. This prestigious ensemble includes exceptional 7th and 8th grade music students from across New York State with acceptance based on teacher recommendations and scores from their performances at the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Solo and Small Ensemble Festival in the spring.

With the help of Chatham music teacher Samantha McShane and recordings provided by the ACDA and NYSSMA chairpersons, Anna worked through June and July to prepare several pieces for performance. She then joined other students and conductor Dr. Tom T. Shelton (of Westminster Choir College) for close to 10 hours of rehearsal prior to performing for an audience of family, friends and music educators at the kick off to the annual NYSSMA Summer Conference.
