The Class of 2023 said “goodbye” to middle school and “hello” to high school during Chatham Middle School’s 8th Grade Moving Up Ceremony, held the evening of June 21 in the Chatham High School auditorium. During the ceremony, CMS dean of students Mark Connelly called each 8th grader forward to stand and be recognized before taking a seat on the stage. The evening also included a performance of select choral students singing “Gone, Gone, Gone,” remarks from CMS principal Mike Burns, and the presentation of student awards.
In his delivering the Principal’s Award, Mr. Burns remarked, “This year my award is about survival, working hard and getting through, for some of you the most difficult years of your lives. Every single student on this stage has contributed in one way or another to Chatham Middle School, and in saying that, tonight I present my principal’s award to every single eighth grader on this stage tonight.”
